Originally from Beijing, China and now attending USC School of Cinematic Arts, Yunqi Richard Li is a narrative filmmaker who aims to tell understated but compelling stories through the moving image. With a deeply bicultural background, he is particularly inspired by films that explore such themes as collective memory, cultural identity, and self-actualization.
His debut short film Almost Will was an official selection at the 2020 AAHSFF and won Outstanding Live Action Short at MetroWest Student Film Festival 2020. His producing credit includes Missing at Sea, an official selection at the 2024 LA Shorts Film Festival, as well as Hermit Crab and Teenhood, both in their festival circuit.
Richard is currently developing his sophomore short, Sunday, August 6th.
